London has become the world’s largest pollution charging area after the ultra-low emission zone (Ulez) was expanded to include the whole of the capital.

People who drive in the zone in a vehicle which does not meet minimum emissions standards are now required to pay a £12.50 daily fee or risk a £180 fine, reduced to £90 if paid within 14 days.

TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with climate activist Donnachadh McCarthy over the Ulez expansion.

Donnachadh: “Londoners voted for a Mayor to clean up their air and he's delivering it."

Julia: “Well, more fool them, Londoners will get what they deserve if they vote for him!”

In an interview with the PA news agency, the Labour mayor said: “The vast majority of Londoners want to see clean air and I recognise there are some Londoners with genuine concerns.

“My job is to try and address those concerns and I have been doing that.”

Mr Khan said he was “disappointed” at the lack of Government support for the policy and its accompanying scrappage scheme.

He expressed frustration that the scrappage programme has no Government funding, unlike those run in several other English cities.

He said: “It was this Government that gave financial support to cities like Bristol, Birmingham and Portsmouth towards their clean air zones.

“If clean air is right for them then why isn’t clean air right for London?”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has defended his controversial ULEZ scheme despite it being blamed for Labour's loss in the Uxbridge by-election.

He said: "I am quite clear though, the policy to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone is the right one. It was a difficult decision to take. But just like nobody will accept drinking dirty water, why accept dirty air?"

ULEZ is the controversial plan to expand the zone where people have to pay a £12.50 daily fee to drive in London if their car does not meet emission standards.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has defended his decision to expand the controversial Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to the outer boroughs of London and said Londoners want clean air, as well as leaders taking "bold action".

Mr Khan told Sky News that air pollution causes health issues in children and adults, and also causes 4,000 premature deaths in London per year.

London mayor Sadiq Khan accused the Government of “weaponising air pollution” ahead of his expansion of the capital’s ultra-low emission zone (Ulez).

As eco protesters from Letzte Generation blockade a Berlin road, cars get around them by driving on the pavement whilst frustrated motorists try in vain to drag them away.

It is not until the police arrive that order is restored.

Two Just Stop Oil supporters have smashed the glass cover of a painting previously slashed by a suffragette in the National Gallery.

The protesters are demanding the Government immediately halt all new oil and gas projects in the UK.

The Metropolitan Police said two activists had been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

At around 10:45am Hanan, 22, and Harrison, 20, used safety hammers to smash the glass covering the Rokeby Venus painting.

Activists from Just Stop Oil disrupted the Pride parade in central London by blocking a float sponsored by Coca-Cola in protest at the event taking money from “high-polluting” sponsors.

The radical environmental group’s threat to disrupt the country’s biggest LGBTQ+ community event appeared to be fulfilled when at least six Just Stop Oil activists lay down in front of the Coca-Cola parade float.

A German Just Stop Oil protest group called Letzte Generation, Last Generation, had two members pushed along a busy road as they clung to the front of a moving car.

The silver Peugeot tries to get the protesters to move by driving towards them.

When the protesters don't move the car keeps going and the two activists hold onto the car bonnet as it drives down the road.
