An anti-Ulez vigilante has described vandalising cameras across London as "unpaid voluntary work" as he called on motorists to fight the £12.50 daily charge.

The campaign director of Blade Runners, a secretive group whose balaclava-clad members have claimed responsibility for a spate of attacks on cameras and signs, told TalkTV drivers had come under "constant attack".

The group, which carries out their attacks at night, has previously told The Daily Mail that its aim was to take down every single Ulez camera in London. The body also claimed that the police and TfL had understated how many cameras had been vandalised.

Sadiq Khan has apologised in public to a Tory rival after calling him “thick” during an argument about the Ulez expansion.

Mr Khan said he was “really sorry” for saying in relation to London Assembly member Peter Fortune: “For somebody who reads a lot, he ain’t half thick.”

Mr Khan paused during a session of mayor’s question time at City Hall on Thursday morning to tell members: “Can I just apologise unreservedly to Peter Fortune for calling him thick.

“I am really sorry for saying that. I have reflected on that and I shouldn’t have said that. It’s not appropriate for me to have said that, and I’m really sorry – genuinely.”

London's Mayor Sadiq Khan has got the green light to extend his controversial ultra low emission zone, Ulez. The High Court has thrown out a challenge by five Conservative-led outer London councils to stop it expanding to cover the whole of the city.

The scheme hits drivers of the most polluting cars with a £12.50 daily charge. Its expansion was blamed for Labour's failure to win Boris Johnson's Uxbridge and South Ruislip seat in last week's by-election.

A climate protester in Germany was hit by a truck after an enraged driver escalated a blocking protest.

A group of protesters were planted in the road when they set upon by the irate lorry driver.

The driver than started running over one of the protesters before stopping.

Just Stop Oil protesters descended on Waterloo Bridge today as they slow-marched and sat in the road, bringing rush-hour traffic chaos to Central London . The demonstration began at about 9.30am, and the Metropolitan Police told the activists to move out of the road to continue protesting on the pavement. Scotland Yard said officers were on scene within a minute of the report and began making arrests when the protesters failed to comply with the order. A paramedic begged police to be given access through the road, saying he was trying to save someone's life.

A paramedic responding to a “life-and-death” emergency begged police to let him through a Just Stop Oil protest.

Sixty activists from the eco group spent 30 minutes slow-marching on Waterloo Bridge on Wednesday morning, causing the busy carriageway to be shut in both directions for an hour.

An ambulance soon arrived with blue lights and sirens but was held up in the gridlocked traffic for about 10 minutes.

The driver of the ambulance said: “I am responding to a life-and-death emergency - I am going to pick up a team from Guy’s hospital to save someone’s life at another hospital but can’t get through.”

An enraged motorist has punched and kicked a Just Stop Oil activist holding up traffic in central London.

In footage shared with TalkTV, the driver can be seen getting out of his car to confront the activists during a slow-march.

He then punches a protester, knocking him to the floor before kicking his head and shouting: "You f****** little s***".

A woman, who appeared to have come from the same car as the attacker, attempts to break up the fight while looking visibly upset.

Reacting to the incident on their website, Just Stop Oil said: "At 8:20am, on the opposite side of Cromwell Road to the march, a driver crashed their Mercedes into another vehicle.”

Speaking after he was assaulted, Daniel Knorr, 21, a student from Oxford, who gained notoriety after being carried off the pitch at Lords by Johnny Bairstow, said:

"I haven’t said anything to the police and I don't plan to, but I'm afraid that the police might go after this man. I feel no ill sentiment or ill will against him. It’s a difficult situation for anyone to be in and it's bound to create frustration. I can tell with the fact that he’d just been in a car accident, he was very stressed.”
