The expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) across London can go ahead after the UK’s High Court ruled it lawful.

The plans had been challenged by opponents to the Mayor of London's bid to charge older, more polluting vehicles a fee to drive through the zone.

The expansion of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) has sparked a fierce backlash from motorists who are now facing daily charges of £12.50 if their vehicles do not comply. This has led to an increase in attacks on ULEZ cameras and calls by senior Tories to slash the scheme in favour of hard-pressed motorists. The scale of this criminality is significant, with hundreds of cameras being damaged or stolen across the city.

To discuss how members of the public are fighting back to scrap ULEZ, in this week's Crime Suspect former Met Detective Peter Bleksley is joined by 'Mr. ULEZ' Noel Willcox, anti-ULEZ campaigner Paul The Orange Dinosaur and former Met Superintendent Shabnam Chaudri.

The ULEZ scheme, which aims to reduce pollution levels in the city, has raised concerns among motorists who feel it is simply a cash grab. Many argue that the signage is unclear and does not provide adequate information about the charges. Scaffolding business owner Noel Willcox, who was hit with fines totalling £11,500, successfully challenged the fines in court, arguing that the signs were not lawful. Despite the court ruling in his favour, Transport for London (TFL) continued to pursue him for the debts.

The ULEZ scheme is expected to generate around £174 million per year for TFL. While the funds are intended to be used for improving transport systems and reducing pollution levels, critics argue that the money could be better spent on other priorities, such as increasing police resources to tackle crime. Protests and campaigns against the ULEZ scheme are growing in numbers, with campaigners like Paul the Orange Dinosaur gaining attention and inspiring others to join the fight.

Writer and broadcaster Esther Krakue says extra police resources have needed to be mobilised to stop these people from vandalising ULEZ cameras.

“The last time I checked about a quarter of all the cameras have been destroyed or vandalised,” Ms Krakue said.

“These police officers are going around in vans which is not exactly environmentally friendly.”

Keith says “the Mayor needs to be aware this is a very clear message” adding “what he is doing is wrong.”

It comes as three arrests have been made after a group of criminals calling themselves the 'Blade Runners' destroyed virtually every single ULEZ camera in a single London borough.

TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by anti-ULEZ vigilante Captain Gatso who is part of the Blade Runners group to discuss their latest action against ULEZ cameras.

Captain Gatso tells Julia that the Government have "created a war on motorists" as he explains why he will continue to destroy ULEZ cameras.

"The Government lie and they don't listen... actions speak louder than words!"

Julia Hartley-Brewer also grills him over why he thinks destroying ULEZ cameras is “justified”.

“It’s a matter of fact that smashing, taking down, stealing and defacing council or London authority property is a criminal act, we don’t endorse that!”

A TfL spokesperson said: “Vandalism is unacceptable and all incidents on our network are reported to the police for investigation. Criminal damage to ULEZ cameras or vehicles puts the perpetrators at risk of prosecution and injury, while simultaneously risking the safety of the public. Camera vandalism will not stop the ULEZ operating London-wide. All vandalised cameras are repaired or replaced as soon as possible.

“We have an extensive camera network which is sufficient to support the effective operation of the scheme. Anyone driving a non-compliant vehicle within the expanded zone will be detected and we advise everyone to check whether their vehicle is compliant and to consider the various support that is available to help transition to greener modes of transport.”

The spokesperson added: “Unfortunately, our contractors have been subjected to threats and abuse while carrying out their duties so they are advised to record any issues on mobile phones to deescalate conflict and if necessary, record evidence for police investigations. It is due to the unacceptable criminal abuse and intimidating behaviour against them that these contractors have worn face coverings. TfL is working with the police to catch those responsible for vandalism and criminal activity relating to ULEZ and arrests have been made.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who made the decision to expand Ulez to the whole of London from August 29, previously warned people attacking cameras that “protest should be lawful, safe and peaceful”, adding: “It is really important to stay on the right side of the law.”

An anti-Ulez vigilante has described vandalising cameras across London as "unpaid voluntary work" as he called on motorists to fight the £12.50 daily charge.

The campaign director of Blade Runners, a secretive group whose balaclava-clad members have claimed responsibility for a spate of attacks on cameras and signs, told TalkTV drivers had come under "constant attack".

The group, which carries out their attacks at night, has previously told The Daily Mail that its aim was to take down every single Ulez camera in London. The body also claimed that the police and TfL had understated how many cameras had been vandalised.

Sadiq Khan has apologised in public to a Tory rival after calling him “thick” during an argument about the Ulez expansion.

Mr Khan said he was “really sorry” for saying in relation to London Assembly member Peter Fortune: “For somebody who reads a lot, he ain’t half thick.”

Mr Khan paused during a session of mayor’s question time at City Hall on Thursday morning to tell members: “Can I just apologise unreservedly to Peter Fortune for calling him thick.

“I am really sorry for saying that. I have reflected on that and I shouldn’t have said that. It’s not appropriate for me to have said that, and I’m really sorry – genuinely.”

Police took around 40 minutes to tackle dozens of Just Stop Oil activists off the road despite outnumbering them.

Some 65 activists from the eco-group “slow marched” across all three carriageways around Parliament Square, London, at 10am on Monday, causing traffic gridlock.

The Metropolitan Police appeared to have been caught off guard, as they frantically called for reinforcements while activists continued with the slow marching – walking at a snail’s pace along the road – until forcibly removed.

Despite vowing to crack down with swift arrests under the Public Order Act, the Met’s 80 officers and 20 police vehicles took 40 minutes to remove them all from blocking traffic.

Police have arrested at least 15 Just Stop Oil protesters blocking the road in Parliament Square, central London.

The group said around 65 protesters were marching on Monday morning to demand an end to new oil and gas.

A spokesman added: “Ordinary people are in the road at Parliament Square, calling out our government’s genocidal policy of new fossil fuels.

“We will not stop.”

The Metropolitan Police said it arrived within four minutes of receiving the initial report, adding: “Officers are responding to a number of Just Stop Oil activists in the road. There have been 15 arrests made.

Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by author and socialist Grace Blakeley and author and commentator Douglas Murray to react to a viral video of a driver getting out their car and punching a Just Stop Oil climate protester for blocking the road and discuss whether police should be intervening with protests on the main roads.

Piers gives some more context for the video as it was reported the man was visibly upset after the protest made his pregnant partner have a car collision. Piers says he doesn't condone the violence shown by the man but also agrees with Douglas that he can understand why someone could be pushed to their limits with these protests.

An angry homeowner threw a bucket of water on Just Stop Oil protestors from his balcony after they halted traffic outside his flat.

The man was filmed dousing the six environmentalists from his third-floor flat as they slowly walked down the A5202 in Camden, north London at 8.10am today (22)

Onlookers cheered as he drenched the eco demonstrators on a second attempt.

It proved too much for one man in Warwick Road. whose temper exploded leading to him snatching signs off protesters and ripping them apart. While in another video,  a furious white van man caught up in the traffic snarl-up raged at the eco-mob 'you should be arrested for doing this,' before adding: 'Why are we the victims? Just Stop Oil has accused the government of genocide, sparking a heated debate. Candice Holdsworth speaking to Mike Graham on TalkTV, said the climate group was acting like they had apocolyptic cult like voices.

More than 60 Just Stop Oil protesters have been arrested after a demonstration in London on Monday.

Dozens of demonstrators lay down in the road near Parliament Square in Westminster at about 10am.

The Metropolitan Police said officers arrived four minutes after receiving a report and have subsequently arrested 62 people under section seven of the Public Order Act.
