The East Cleveland police department has released body cam footage of an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday afternoon. Officers said that the suspect attacked a woman in the middle of Beersford Road, and also fired shots into the air around 1:30 p.m. "Officers approached, they observed the male striking the female on the ground. Immediately... as soon as officers got out of their vehicle the suspect charged one of the officers," said Commander Scott Gardner, of the East Cleveland Police Department. The video released shows the suspect lunging at officers when they arrive on scene. An officer fires at the suspect, and the man continues struggling with officers until he is ultimately handcuffed. Commander Gardner explained that the two officers involved were injured during the incident. One officer has an orbital eye fracture and one officer has a broken hand. Both were treated and released from University Hospitals. State agents with the Bureau of Criminal investigation and East Cleveland police continue to investigate the incident.

Police initially got a call about a man beating a woman in the middle of the street, and witnesses also told police the man had been firing a gun in the street. Officers told that they were able to hear the gun shots from the department's parking lot, so they were quickly able to respond to Beersford Road. Another witness describes nearly being attacked by the suspect while driving down Beersford. "This guy came out of nowhere and approached my car like he was going to attack me in my car so I backed up and went around him," said Victor McCallum, of East Cleveland. "It's not normal over here, it's very quiet over here. I don't know what he was angry about or why it came about," he said. The female victim who was attacked has not been identified, but police said at last check she was in critical condition. She also explained in the body cam footage that she was "just walking down the street" and did not know the suspect.

10.7.23 | BROOKLYN - In the early hours of the morning at 64 Lafayette Ave in Brooklyn, chaos erupted as a belligerent individual began hurling insults and provoking altercations with pedestrians. Police swiftly intervened, but the confrontational individual did not hesitate to direct his profanity towards the officers. Despite their efforts to defuse the situation, he continued to incite confrontations, attempting to engage in physical altercations with a group of bystanders.

The officers persistently intervened to prevent further escalation, but the individual's aggression knew no bounds. He brazenly obstructed traffic by sitting in the middle of the road, further complicating the already tense scene. Attempting to evade the authorities, he took off on a desperate sprint down the block, with the officers in hot pursuit. Although he managed to elude capture momentarily, he audaciously circled back to the initial crime scene.

However, his return did not go unnoticed by the vigilant officers, who promptly apprehended him, despite his continued verbal abuse. The entire neighborhood, agitated by his behavior, joined in the chorus of disapproval, urging the police to take decisive action. Tensions escalated further as onlookers voiced concerns of racial bias, emphasizing that if the unruly individual were of a different ethnicity, the outcome might have been more dire.

As the intoxicated individual continued to berate both the officers and civilians, his demeanor suddenly shifted, and he began to scream in apparent distress. Recognizing the need for medical attention, an ambulance was promptly summoned, and he was transported to a nearby hospital. This tumultuous episode unfolded against the backdrop of a crime scene where a tragic shooting had occurred, adding an additional layer of complexity to the already fraught situation

Bodycam footage shows the moments surrounding a domestic incident between a California man and his girlfriend on August 29. The Los Angeles Police Department said Jose Cuellar’s girlfriend, who was not named, called 911 after he allegedly began cutting up their bed in a violent rage. The 42-year-old told police in Spanish that another man was calling his girlfriend, “I work! She does this to me?” Authorities successfully defused the situation and took Cuellar into custody. The Law&Crime Network’s Sierra Gillespie has the details.

Birmingham, Alabama — On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, South Precinct Officers were dispatched to a report of a disorderly person in Underwood Park. Four Birmingham Police Officers responded to separate incident locations, in connection with the 911 call. The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Theodore Williams of Irondale, Alabama. Officers #1 and #2 made contact with an adult male victim, in Underwood Park. The adult male victim stated, while he was walking in Underwood Park, he was approached by a male wearing a black jacket in blue jeans and the suspects spit on him. While officers #1 and #2 were gathering information to put in an incident report, officers #3 and #4 observed Theodore Williams walking in the 2500 block of 10th Avenue South.

He matched the clothing description of the suspect. Officers #3 and #4 approached Williams, but he fled on foot. They relayed information that he was running on foot over the police radio, officers #1 and #2 then got in their patrol car and drove until they observed Williams walking in the 2300 block of 10th Avenue South. Officer #2 approached him. Williams stated to officer #2 that he was going to physically assault him and then he struck officer #2 with a closed fist. Williams then fled on foot, officer #1 pursued him on foot. During the foot pursuit, officer #1 deployed his taser however it was unsuccessful. Both officer #1 and Theodore Williams, ran westbound until Williams stopped in the roadway in the 2200 block of Magnolia Avenue. He then faced towards officer #1. Officer #1 told Williams to turn around and place his hands behind his back, Williams refused and spit on officer #1.

Officer #1 took Williams to the ground and while on the ground, delivered multiple closed fist strikes to Williams. Officer #1 applied handcuffs on him. A South Precinct Sergeant responded to the 2200 block of Magnolia Avenue. Birmingham Fire Rescue Personnel responded to the 2200 block of Magnolia Avenue and treated Williams. Neither officers, #1, #2, #3, #4, nor Williams suffered any serious injuries. Williams was placed in a patrol car and then transported to a local area hospital, to be checked out by medical staff. Williams was then transported to the Birmingham city jail, where he remains in custody. Officers presented case information to the City of Birmingham’s Magistrate Office, who charged Williams with assault with bodily fluids, physical harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Video shows a New York City cop fighting a suspect before he is eventually arrested. CNN's Brooke Baldwin has more.

Youngstown, Ohio — On September 14, 2023, a male, later identified as 27-year-old Keishaun Sims entered the Youngstown Police Department lobby in emotional distress. The officer assigned to the auxiliary office, taking on station reports, initially attempted to engage with Sims, however the situation escalated. Sims became confrontational and a physical altercation took place involving both the officer and Sims. The encounter took a crucial turn when Sims assaulted the officer, and attempted to access the officer’s firearm. Other officers arrived and managed to handcuff Sims.

Sims was arrested and booked into Mahoning County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; two counts of assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony; and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and obstructing official business. He remains jailed after his bond was set at $100,000 during his arraignment in municipal court. The officer was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be examined but has since returned to duty. A statement from the police department said they are studying the encounter very closely and are mulling over whether to add more training to officers to learn how to de-escalate similar situations.

An off-duty NYPD officer was shot in the leg in Queens Wednesday afternoon during a road rage incident involving two brothers, police said. PIX11 News obtained video of the confrontation that shows the moment the gunshots went off.
